What
Is Gum Disease And Their Prevention Measures?
The first sign of gum
disease is when you see blood in the sink while brushing. Plaque and calculus
build up around the tooth which causes Irritation, redness and swelling in
gums. This disease can be serious if not treated on time. The infection will go
under your gums up to the bone and damage the soft tissues which also cause
other diseases like heart disease, cancer and diabetes etc. Therefore, it is
better to get the treatment before it gets serious. With the help of some
measures we can prevent gum disease.
·
Brushing
teeth
To
prevent the gum disease, the most important part is played by our toothbrush
that should be replaced regularly so the bacteria cannot grow on brush. So it
is better to change your tooth brush in every 3-4 months. Brushing your teeth
twice a day or after every meal if possible can help decreasing the risk of gum
disease.
·
Flossing
We
should not rely on brushing teeth only because brush doesn’t reach to the
grooves in between the teeth. So it is necessary to floss the teeth once in a
day that helps to reach at difficult areas to prevent plaque. Flossing should
be done gently to avoid any harm to your gums.
Brushing
and flossing is not enough but regular dental checkups are also important once
in a year or as recommended by dentist who will monitor the dental health at dental clinic Mississauga and take
necessary actions on time. Plaque is hard to remove at once so regular visit at
dentist is needed.
·
Change
in lifestyle
Bad
habits like smoking, tobacco, drugs are responsible for developing gum disease and make the treatment difficult.
The chances of gum disease increased if you have diabetes or cancer. Stress
also worsens the disease because it weakens the immunity system of our body
which makes it more difficult to fight with the bacteria. A genetic factor also
causes gum disease. Therefore, it is recommended to leave the bad habits and
reducing stress can help to prevent gum disease. Pregnant women are at high
risk of gum disease due to hormonal changes. A well balanced diet helps your
immune system to fight with infection.
